At Jersey Bird Homestead, the goats aren’t just livestock — they’re family. Our small herd of Nigerian Dwarf goats is at the heart of everything we do, from morning chores to the soap studio.
We chose this breed because they’re ideal for a family homestead in southern New Jersey. They’re smaller, friendly, and excellent milk producers with high butterfat content. Every goat is ADGA-registered and health-tested negative for CAE, CL, and Johne’s disease. We take their care seriously so we can confidently use their milk in our products.
Some of our current herd members include:
- Lemon Thyme – always the first to greet us
- Deer Park Sunflower – sweet and curious
- Dreams Run Juniper, Deer Park Clover, and Cedar Shade WB Prairie Fire
We raise them with ethical, sustainable practices: plenty of pasture time, quality hay, and lots of love. We also breed and sell kids for 4-H projects, dairy homes, and as family companions.
The milk these ladies give us is truly special — rich, creamy, and packed with natural vitamins, fatty acids, and lactic acid. While we use some for home cheese making, most goes into our small-batch cold process soaps. Nothing beats knowing exactly where your ingredients come from.
Caring for the herd is a family affair. Our kids help with feeding and learn responsibility along the way. It’s the kind of hands-on education you can’t get from a book.
